If you are charged with a sex crime, you may think or believe that there is no way to defend your case or that all hope is lost. However, as a former prosecutor, I know that the prosecution of a sex crime is often a difficult task because the alleged victim is either unwilling to come forward with information; or, if the alleged victim is a minor, they may be unable to testify because of their young age. Unlike what you see on television, sex crime cases frequently lack physical evidence. Weaknesses in the prosecution’s case can be used to your advantage. The State may have no other means to prosecute these cases other than the admissions or statements of the alleged offender. It is important to seek counsel at the earliest possible stages of the investigation. If obtained, the prosecution may use your statements, admissions, actions, inactions, or other behaviors as subsequent evidence against you. |
