Driving on a Suspended or Revoked License (DWLSR)

If you have been arrested or charged with the crime of DWLSR, the state must prove that you were driving with knowledge that your license has been cancelled, suspended, or revoked. After a thorough review of the facts, it may be determined that you have defense to this charge. Perhaps the state cannot prove that you were the driver. The state may not be able to prove that you received notice of the suspension from the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles.

  • A first time conviction for DWLSR is a second degree misdemeanor punishable by up to a $500.00 fine and/or 60 days in jail.
  • A second conviction for DWLSR is a first degree misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000.00 fine/or one year in jail.
  • A third conviction for DWLSR is a felony punishable by up to 5 years in state prison.
  • A conviction for DWLSR as a Habitual Traffic Offender is a felony punishable by up to 5 years in state prison.

However, entering a plea to the any criminal charge of DWLSR may result in your designation as a Habitual Traffic Offender resulting in a driver’s license suspension of 5 years.
